If I print the plans from the web, are they any different than what you'd
send me? Nope, they'll be exactly the same which is why we
encourage folks to print them from the web and save the S&H charges. We
use a standard DeskJet printer with full color and a presentation type grade
paper. |
|
What if I print the plans, then spill apple juice all over them? Can I
print them again? Sure you can! While we do change our plan
locations from time to time for security reasons, we'll always be happy to give
you the web address again, just drop us a line and ask! |
|
How much will it cost me to
build? We figure most folks will hit their local home improvement
mega-store and the figures you see on each of the plan web pages (coming
soon!) are an estimate based on their retail pricing. Of course those
figures will go up or down depending on whether you have hardware already in
your shop or which grade of paint or stain you use, but the estimates will give
you a good ballpark idea. |
|
Do you recommend any
particular finishes? We always liked coming in first but second or third
can be pretty cool, too. Oh..... you mean wood finishes? Well, for
things like the playhouse and especially the kid's picnic table, you obviously
want to stick with non-toxic or even food-safe finishes.
Minwax has a great site with
lots of tips & tricks and plenty of variety to help you find just the right
finish. |
|
Can a plan be modified? This
question is a little tricky. The rule of thumb is: if you're
comfortable doing the modifications, then yes, it can be. For the most
part, it's pretty easy. The only thing you need to keep in mind is
structural support. We don't recommend this practice to beginners but
sometimes plans are like recipes, a good cook can always do a little doctoring
and have things turn out fine. As a side note, we are working on expanding
our existing line of plans to include different sizes, particularly on the
playhouse and the storage bed. Subscribe to our newsletter and you'll be
the first to know when new plans are available. |
|
Do I have to be an
engineer to read your plans? Nope, not at all. That's one of the
things on which Plan-B prides itself (that and not ending sentences in a
preposition.) Our plans are written in simple, straight forward and
sometimes even amusing language. In fact, lots of folks have written to
tell us that ours were the easiest plans they've ever used! |
|
Are your plans full size? In a
word, no. What we offer (as do just about all other plan venues) are
plans, not blueprints. It would neither be practical nor cost effective to
print a full size pattern for most of our plans. The exceptions are things
like the Dolphin Shelf in which case we provide a full size pattern template for
the dolphin cut-out. If part of the plan needs to be traced and can fit on
8.5" x 11" paper, we'll include it. Otherwise, measurements are provided
for every detail and all drawings are scaled for easy reference. |

Can I call you with my
credit card number? Well, you could, but it won't do either of us
much good. We've partnered with PayPal to provide a safe, secure &
encrypted credit card payment system and all of that is handled right online.
We never even see your credit card number, nor is it stored in our files or
paperwork. |

What is the best way to reach
you? While we're happy to hear from you by phone, the most efficient way
to reach us really is through e-mail. Our resident plan guru isn't in the
office much but does check his e-mail frequently and will reply to any and all
questions ASAP. The gal who runs the office (and I'm allowed to use the
word 'gal' because I'm the one typing this) is happy to answer any questions
about ordering, shipping, the weather, or matters of the heart but when it comes
to plan questions, she can just sit there and look cute. She does,
however, pester the guru to answer his e-mail. Our number is 239-745-8631
and our main e-mail address is buzz at my-plan-b dot com |
|
Is it difficult working with Buzz, seeing as how he's a bee and all...?
He can get a little uptight now and then, but for the most part he's pretty
mellow. |
|
What do you do with my info when I place an order or sign up for the newsletter?
Whether you place an order or just sign up for the newsletter, we put you on
our permanent list of people we adore in our own database on our very own PC and
that's about it. We will never sell, rent, trade or otherwise distribute
any of your information to any business, alien life form, organization, forest
ranger, association, dairy cow or group. |
|
I've never used PayPal
before; how does it work? Is it safe? Super safe, we've been using it
for years both as a buyer and a seller! Now, you don't even have to be a
PayPal member! "With PayPal, you can send and receive payments through the
Internet. Once you sign up for PayPal, you can send money to anyone with an
email address using the money from your PayPal balance or another funding option
of your choice. Recipients are notified by email that they have received a
payment."
Whether you choose to make a payment through an eCheck (which
debits the checking account you specify) or with a credit card (Visa,
MasterCard, Discover & AmEx), all of your information is processed using 128 bit
encryption (the highest level available) and we never see your account numbers
or details. To quote PayPal's security page: "PayPal automatically
encrypts your confidential information in transit from your computer to ours
using the Secure Sockets Layer protocol (SSL) with an encryption key length of
128-bits (the highest level commercially available). Before you even register or
log in to our site, our server checks that you're using an approved browser -
one that uses SSL 3.0 or higher."
